'Black U.S. Marshals Are Battling Systemic Racism at the Agency'

Retired Chief Deputy Says Members of Congress, nor the
Department of Justice, Have Done Nothing to Address the Crisis

THE G-MAN INTERVIEWS: DR. MATTHEW FOGG

Welcome.

Dr. Matthew Fogg is a retired Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal with 32 years of public service and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He’s also the federal agent who challenged the U.S. Department of Justice and won. His District of Columbia federal court victory in 1998, which resulted in a jury award of $4 million for exposing race discrimination and retaliatory tactics by the DOJ, was a landmark civil rights judgment against the agency.

He has received major awards from the director of the U.S. Marshals Service, the District of Columbia U.S. Attorney and the Federal Bar Association for outstanding service above and beyond the call of duty: directing the arrest of over 300 of America’s most wanted fugitives charged with murder, rape, child molestation, hate crimes, prison escape, terrorism, illegal drugs and more in the U.S. and overseas.

Marshal Fogg appeared in a 2015 episode of "The G-Man Interviews" to discuss racism in the U.S. Marshal Service and law enforcement agencies across the country. He is Class Agent in {Fogg. et. al vs Eric Holder/U.S. DOJ}, pending before the U.S. EEO Commission, representing hundreds of Black U.S. Marshals, nationwide. He joins me to provide an overview of the case and the latest developments.

The interview was conducted on October 25, 2019.

Additional information on the former U.S. marshal is available here.

The Killing of Atatiana Jefferson: National Day of Action to Be Held in Fifteen Cities

Until Freedom, founded by Tamika D. Mallory, Linda Sarsour, Mysonne Linen and Angelo Pinto, will lead a national day of action on October 28 in fifteen cities across the United States to honor the life of Atatiana Jefferson, a young Black woman in Fort Worth, Texas, who was just 28-years-old when she was shot and killed by a Fort Worth Police officer in her own home.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. (EST), people across the country will stand in solidarity and demand justice for Atatiana and all Black women whose lives have been taken due to police abuse. Everyone is being asked to wear black on as a sign of unity.

In New York City, Until Freedom’s co-founders will lead the rally at Foley Square in partnership with Arc of Justice, Justice League NYC and other leading activists, advocates, elected officials, faith and community leaders, artists and more.

“It is absolutely outrageous to consider that less than one week after Officer Amber Guyger was found guilty of murdering Botham Jean in his home in Dallas, that another Texas police officer could fire with impunity into the home of another innocent Black person,” says Tamika D. Mallory, adding “We demand answers, but more importantly, we demand change. We will not allow Black people to continue to be preyed upon by those committed to protecting and serving them.’

The family of Atatiana Jefferson said the following about the Day of Outrage, "Our family is mourning over the tragic and untimely murder of Atatiana by Aaron Dean former Fort Worth police officer. Although Dean, has been arrested and charged, he is back on the streets and we are uncertain justice will prevail. We demand full transparency and accountability. It is our sincere hope that Atatiana’s story will not be forgotten, and our pursuit of dignity prevents the likelihood of similar events of police abuse. Please show up for the Day of Outrage wherever you are. Keep our loved one’s name alive!"

Cities that have confirmed their participation include New York, Fort Worth, Houston, Seattle, Atlanta, Phoenix, Jackson, Knoxville, Las Vegas, Raleigh, Miami, Fayetteville Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Detroit, Shreveport, Springfield, Dayton, Newark, and Charlotte.
