The following statement was submitted by Marc Cohen, President of the SUNY Student Assembly.
“The Student Assembly is proud to support the Excelsior Scholarship program that
Governor Cuomo announced this morning, and lauds his efforts to make public higher
education more affordable and accessible for all New Yorkers. These scholarships align
with the underlying promise of an affordable public education in New York's world-class
public colleges and universities.
“With these scholarships in place, the Student Assembly is confident that New
York’s families with the greatest financial need will be given an opportunity to access the
resources and programs that our campuses have to offer. We hope that the Senate and
Assembly act quickly to allocate the funding necessary for this program to ensure that
qualifying families across the state can reap the benefits of a SUNY education.”
Note: Details on the scholarship are available here.
