Brooklyn HS Trounces Elite NYC Schools for 20th Chess Championship

Students from Edward R. Murrow HS in Midwood earned their record 20th city chess championship Sunday night by thrashing teams from some of New York's elite schools.

And in victory, the team's longtime coach took a shot at President Trump's travel ban and heightened visa restrictions.

"We're a multicultural team with mostly immigrants from all over the world," said the coach, Eliot Weiss, mentioning team members from Ecuador, Mexico, China, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia and Kazakhstan. "We could not compete in such a tournament if it were up to President Trump."
