A Texas school district has apologized after a teacher at one of its schools nicknamed a class the “jighaboos”.
A white teacher at Bell Manor Elementary School nicknamed all of her
sixth grade classes and set goals for each group. One of the classes was
nicknamed jighabook–a misspelling of a racial slur.
The inappropriate naming only came to the attention of school officials at Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD after a parent complained, Fox4News reported.
An unnamed father went to the school and took a picture of the
laminated sign which read, “Mrs. _______’s Jighaboos are at school
today to achieve our 6th grade goals and prepare for 7th grade.”
“She makes them recite that out loud,” said the dad, who is white.
The class which was nicknamed the slur is racially mixed.
