The following statement was issued on September 27.
Today, we were deeply saddened to learn
of the death of FDNY Chief Michael Fahy from the 19th battalion in The Bronx.
He was killed this morning while serving in the line of duty. Chief Fahy was
investigating the odor of gas in a building when he was struck by debris from
the explosion. Chief Michael Fahy was a 17 year veteran of the FDNY and father
of three who dedicated his career to public service and today gave his life in
service to The Bronx. It is a reminder of the dangers our first responders face
every day as they serve our communities. We are grateful for our servicemen and
servicewomen and the sacrifices they make to keep us safe. Our thoughts and
prays go out to Chief Fahy's family and the entire FDNY family today.
