Libya's interim government has
encouraged former rebel fighters to sign up for the police and army. After the
fall former leader Muammar Gaddafi, the interim government moved to improve
public safety by creating the Supreme Security Committee (SCC). They are now
more than 100,000 former rebel fighters patrolling neighbourhoods across Libya
to curb criminal activities and prevent attacks. Human rights groups have
accused these forces of making random arrests and running secret prisons. Even
so, some Libyans appreciate the SCC patrols, believing that without them the
government would be weak. Al Jazeera's Omar Al Saleh reports from Tripoli.
