Feuds Galore Highlight 2017 NYS Legislative Session

Here is the fourth item of my "Albany Insider" column that was cut for space from Monday's print editions:

The 2017 state legislative session that finally ended last week was marked by rampant feuding.

Lawmakers from both houses came into the year livid with Cuomo for what they believed was his breaking of a promise in December to sign off on the first legislative pay raise since 1999.

From there, things just got worse, resulting in Cuomo’s first real late budget and the need for the governor to call the Legislature back to Albany for a special session last week to complete the business left unfinished when the Legislature adjourned its annual session on June 21. That included extending the expiring laws granting mayoral control over New York City schools and dozens of local taxes that were also set to expire.
