White House Responds to Japanese Prime Minister's Statement on the 70th Anniversary of the End of World War II

Statement by NSC Spokesperson Ned Price

We welcome Prime Minister Abe’s expression of deep remorse for the suffering caused by Japan during the World War II era, as well as his commitment to uphold past Japanese government statements on history. We also value Prime Minister Abe’s assurances of Japan’s intent to expand upon its contributions to international peace and prosperity in the years ahead.  For 70 years Japan has demonstrated an abiding commitment to peace, democracy, and the rule of law.  This record stands as a model for nations everywhere.

Statement on Lisa Monaco’s Meeting with Indian
Deputy National Security Advisor Dr. Arvind Gupta

Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, Lisa Monaco, met with Indian Deputy National Security Advisor Dr. Arvind Gupta in conjunction with the United States-India Cyber Dialogue.  The leaders discussed a wide range of issues including cybersecurity, enhanced law enforcement cooperation, and U.S.-India collaboration against Lashkar-e-Tayyiba and other terrorist threats.  Building on the commitment that President Obama and Prime Minister Modi made in New Delhi in January to make the U.S.-India partnership “a defining counterterrorism relationship for the 21st Century,” they agreed to deepen their already close collaboration on these issues.
