Assemblywoman Invites Residents to Forum on the State of Health Care Services in the Rockaways
Assemblywoman Michele Titus (D-Far Rockaway)
announced that the New York State Department of Health (DOH) will be hosting a
community forum to provide information and gain the community’s input on the
state of health care services in the Rockaways.
The forum is set to be held on Thursday, May 10,
from 3 to 7pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall located at 333 Beach 90th Street.
This is the first application of the New York
State law passed in 2010, which requires that a public forum be held within 30
days of a hospital’s closing to provide information to residents in the local
community on the impact of the closure and alternate options for healthcare
services.
Rockaway residents protested
the recent closing of Peninsula Hospital, which was plagued with a myriad of
financial problems and had undergone numerous restructuring efforts in an attempt to save the
facility.
“Please be aware that this is the time for your
voice to be heard. Come and express your opinions about the hospital closure to
the Department of Health,” said Assemblywoman Titus.
“This meeting gives our community a much needed
opportunity to get exactly what we want in health care for the Rockaways.”
