NYPD PBA Prez Urges Members to Vote No on 'CCRB Power Grab'

 

 

Dear PBA Member:

I am writing to alert you to a critical issue appearing on your ballot this Election Day. On Tuesday, November 5^th, New York City voters will decide whether to amend the New York City Charter – the City’s Constitution – to give the Civilian Complaint Review Board more power, more money and more staff. 
 

If approved, Ballot Question #2 would:

1. Allow CCRB to investigate & recommend discipline for “false statement” allegations, rather than referring those cases to IAB;
2. Increase CCRB’s budget and link it to NYPD headcount;
3. Give the City Council and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams more control over the appointment of CCRB board members;
4. Expand CCRB’s subpoena power; and,
5. Require the Police Commissioner to provide detailed explanations for any departure from CCRB’s disciplinary recommendations.
   

Every cop knows that CCRB is already infected with anti-police bias. Including a radical expansion of CCRB’s power, budget and jurisdiction in the City Charter, where it cannot be easily changed, will hurt the careers of every cop on our job for years to come.

Turnout for this year’s election is expected to be very low, and we have more than 19,000 active and retired PBA members residing in New York City. That’s why we need you, your family and your friends to HEAD TO THE POLLS & VOTE NO ON QUESTON 2.

Election Day is November 5^th, but be advised that New York City has implemented early voting starting on October 26^th. Visit vote.nyc.ny.us to find early voting times and locations in your district.

If you care about your fellow police officers and the future of our job, you cannot afford to miss this vote.
