New York State Trooper Killed in Montgomery County Crash

 
A New York State trooper was killed in a traffic accident Tuesday morning while on his way to work in Montgomery County.

The crash happened around 7:45 a.m. on Route 5S in Glen. Police Trooper Jeremy VanNostrand's car was rear-ended and pushed into oncoming traffic while stopped and waiting to turn into the State Police Fonda station.

Statement by Governor Andrew Cuomo

"The family of New York grieves for Trooper Jeremy VanNostrand, who was tragically killed in a car crash in the Town of Glen while on duty.

"Trooper VanNostrand, who served as a member of the New York State Police for six years, dedicated his life to protecting New Yorkers. His legacy of service, as a State Corrections Officer and then as a member of the New York State Police, was an inspiration to us all, and his example will live on for generations to come.

"I am directing that flags be flown at half-staff in honor of Trooper VanNostrand, and on behalf of all New Yorkers I extend my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones."

Flags on all state government buildings will be flown at half-staff from November 28 until interment.
