State Republicans Warn Cuomo on Nominee Appointments

ALBANY — With tensions flaring between Senate Republicans and Gov. Cuomo, the GOP says it won’t be business as usual anymore when it comes to confirming the governor’s appointments.

Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan (R-Suffolk County) sent a letter last week to Cuomo counsel Alphonso David alerting him that the Senate will no longer rush through last-minute appointments sent up by Cuomo at the end of the legislative session.

Instead, the Senate, which has confirmation powers, will break the appointments into two tiers. The first will be people nominated for paid or policy-making positions, and the second will be those getting nods for unpaid or nonpolicy-making posts.
