Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Career Fair on April 12

The 19th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Career Fair will take place April 12 at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than 150 businesses will be on hand to offer on-site job interviews with company representatives for nearly 8,000 job opportunities. A resource room will also be available for job seekers to research employment opportunities and complete online applications. The event is free of charge for job seekers and businesses.

"This is a great opportunity to match New Yorkers with employers looking to hire and help expand the local economy," Governor Cuomo said. "I encourage all job seekers in the Albany area learn more about the many great employment options available in the Capital Region."

In addition to organizing the Career Fair, the State Department of Labor will also be offering an on-site workshop for attendees. The "How to Get the Most Out of a Career Fair" workshop will run during the fair to provide job seekers with tips on navigating an event and how best to "sell" yourself to participating recruiters. Participants are reminded to dress professionally and bring several copies of their resumes.

A full list of this year's exhibitors can be found here. Businesses expected to make on-site hires include: Fidelis Care, Maximus, Owens Corning, St. Peter's Health Partners and US Foods.

State Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon said, "At last year's Dr. King Career Fair, approximately 20 job seekers were hired immediately and hundreds more made the connections that helped them find the careers they wanted. The New York State Department of Labor is pleased to be able to facilitate these connections and I encourage anyone looking for work to stop by and take advantage of this free event."

Those who wish to attend the fair are encouraged to register online. Space is limited and turnout is expected to be large, so individuals are strongly encouraged to register as soon as possible.

Free parking is available at Lincoln Park and a free CDTA shuttle will transport job seekers from the Lincoln Park Pool House to the Plaza every fifteen minutes between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
