Prentiss, Mississippi Farmer Needs Votes In Order to Win Grant

A Prentiss, Miss. farmer needs votes in order to win a national grant from a program called "Cultivating Change."

Ozell White is a fifth generation farmer who grows watermelons and raises cattle. He wants to provide the area with fresh produce and meat without chemicals, WDAM reported.

White was named Small Farmer of the Year in 2014 by Alcorn State University. He said if he wins the grant, he will buy transportation and build a shed for processing watermelons and vegetables.

This is a yearly grant program put on by national produce distributor, Pro-Act, to benefit farmers who want to give back to their communities. The California-based distributor said after this contest, it will have "invested $200,000 in local farms from coast to coast."
