New York Civil Liberties Union Files Suit After Suffolk County Turns Resident Over to ICE

The New York Civil Liberties Union is suing the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department for detaining a suspect for immigration officials.

Attorneys for the advocacy group are seeking the release of Susai Francis, a Suffolk County man, who was locked away in the Suffolk County Jail after he pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct violation and sentenced to time served.

Instead of being released after his plea Monday, Francis was held by sheriffs and turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
