ALBANY
— U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer has joined a growing chorus calling on a
group of eight breakaway state Senate Democrats to re-unify with the
chamber's mainline Dems.
The Independent Democratic Conference, or IDC, has been aligned in a leadership coalition with the Senate Republicans.
"The IDC, they're elected as Democrats and they should caucus with the
Democrats and create a Democratic majority," Schumer said Monday during
an unrelated Putnam County appearance. "That's the right thing to do."
Of the IDC, he said that "they don't run as Republicans, they just
caucus with Republicans. That's wrong. They ought to caucus and work
with the Democrats."
