SPLC to Senate: Colleges Must Uphold Free Speech But Can Denounce Racist Speakers



SPLC President Richard Cohen testified today before the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions about the responsibility of universities to uphold the First Amendment rights of controversial speakers. It's an issue that schools are confronting in the wake of deadly violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, and a white nationalist movement emboldened by President Trump’s rhetoric.
