Addabbo Announces Offshore Wind Farm Open House in Rockaway

New York State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr., is informing the public that the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) is having the first of three open houses to discuss Governor Cuomo's commitment to generate 2.4 gigawatts of power from offshore wind by 2030. This initiative will provide enough power for 1.25 million homes, while also providing thousands thousands of new job opportunities, significant investments and a renewable source of energy for years to come.

An open house will be held on Monday, August 14, from 6-to-8 p.m. at the Peninsula Library, 92-25 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, Rockaway Beach, to provide the public with an opportunity to review information, ask questions of NYSERDA representatives and submit comments on the New York Offshore Wind Master Plan, which will be released at the end of the year.

"I want to thank Governor Cuomo for his continued support of the Offshore Wind Project, which seeks to build a facility about 12 miles off the coast of the Rockaway Peninsula to provide clean, renewable energy to residents in the city, Westchester County and Long Island," Addabbo said. "I look forward to working with the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) to obtain the lease, in the hope that this offshore wind farm will help to eliminate more than 540,000 lbs. of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere each yearthe equivalent of removing 120,000 vehicles from local streets."
