Restaurant & Tavern Association and NYS Liquor Authority Host Free Training

 



The Empire State Restaurant & Tavern Association today announced that it is hosting a statewide series of free seminars for restaurant and tavern owners and their staffs in conjunction with the New York State Liquor Authority across the state The day-long program focuses on the legal responsibilities of selling alcohol and provides training in practical skills to help licensees and their employees fulfill their legal responsibilities.

"Compliance with the law is the best way to protect the public, our communities and our businesses" said Scott Wexler, ESRTA Executive Director. "These training programs give owners, managers and their staff an understanding of their duties and responsibilities under the law."

The morning session, the ABC's of the ABC Law focuses on the responsibilities of licensees in maintaining a premises that is in compliance with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Law. This training covers the topics vital to keeping on-premises establishments in compliance with the law. This session will be held from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm.

The afternoon session, the Alcohol Training Awareness Program (ATAP), addresses the responsibilities of servers to prevent sales to underage persons and sales to visibly intoxicated patrons. ATAP training can be used as a defense to an SLA violation to reduce a penalty imposed by the State Liquor Authority. This session will be held from 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm.

Over the course of the year session will be scheduled in Binghamton, Buffalo, Hyde Park, Long Island, Rochester, Saratoga, Syracuse, Tarrytown and Utica. These training programs are presented free of charge thanks to the sponsorship of Anheuser-Busch, Constellation Brands, Empire Merchants North, Heineken USA and Southern Glazer Wine & Spirits.
