Look Up Rates By County

SYRACUSE, N.Y, -- Many 16- to 24-year-olds who live in rural Upstate
New York counties may be destined for a lifetime of poor health because
they are not in school or working, according to a report released today.
At least 14 percent of people in this age group in 27 Upstate
counties are unemployed and out of school, the annual County Health
Rankings report shows.
Greene County in the Catskills has the highest proportion of any
county in the state of young people jobless and out of school - 38
percent. Franklin County in the Adirondacks has the second highest rate,
28 percent. The statewide average is 14 percent. Nationwide, about 4.9
million young people, or 1 out of 8, fall into this category.
The statistics are based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
