House Freedom Caucus Chair: ‘Not Enough Votes to Pass’ GOP Health Care Bill

House Freedom Caucus Chairman Rep. Mark Meadows said Wednesday that there are enough Freedom members to kill the GOP health care bill and that a vote should be postponed.

Meadows met with members of the conservative caucus, which is staunchly opposed to the GOP health care plan, in the afternoon as Republican leaders scramble to assemble enough party line support to pass their replacement measure in a floor vote expected Thursday.

"A self imposed deadline doesn't necessarily make for good policy," Meadows told reporters after the meeting.

"We believe we need to postpone the vote and get it right," Meadows added. "We need changes to the underlying bill before we vote on it in the House. ... There's not enough votes to pass it tomorrow."

However, a senior GOP aide told NBC News that there are no plans to delay the vote beyond Thursday.
