Sanders to Co-Sponsor Gianaris' Legislation Blocking Trump's Muslim Travel Ban

New York State Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) is co-sponsoring legislation blocking President Trump's anti-Muslim travel ban. It is being introduced by State Senator Mike Gianaris (D-Astoria) and would prohibit the Port Authority from implementing the likely illegal mandate.

President Trump signed an executive order on Friday preventing refugees from entering the United States for 120 days and immigrants from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia from coming to the US for three months.

“I fully support Senator Gianaris’ bill. We must take a unified stand against President Trump’s Muslim ban, a measure I believe will be found unconstitutional,” Senator Sanders said. “I applaud and uphold the rights of the protesters who have made their voices heard in defending our Democracy and the common humanity of all people. We must remember that an injury to one is an injury to all. Senator Gianaris’ legislation is one of many Resistance Agenda bills being put forth by the State Senate’s Democratic Conference which are necessary to prohibit blanket discrimination against Muslims, and protect those decent, hardworking immigrants who make up many of the communities here in New York. The world is watching us and we must show them that we will not stand idly by while Trump’s misdirected agenda hurts so many.”
