New York's Newest Congressman Adriano Espaillat to Make History

WASHINGTON - Adriano Espaillat is about to make history, in more than one way.

When Espaillat is sworn into Congress on Tuesday he'll become the first Dominican-American — and first formerly undocumented immigrant — sworn into Congress.

“Personally it's very rewarding. I've tried several times, the third one is the charm. And this is also a collective victory for many folks in this district who want a new chapter written,” Espaillat, 62, told the Daily News.

He'll also be the first non-African American since World War II to represent Harlem in the House, marking a sea change for the neighborhood and the city.
