Charlie King, the Mercury Public Affairs lobbyist and former head of
the New York State Democratic Party, is planning another one-man
protest.
This time, he’s targeting the man who’s about to become the most
powerful elected Democrat in the country: U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer.
King plans to hand deliver a letter to Schumer’s D.C. office on
Thursday and then stand outside the office all day long in protest. The
reason? King says Schumer and Senate Democrats need to hire more black
staffers.
"These guys have basically no black senior staff within the Senate.
Twenty-five years ago, you had one black senior staff member, and now
you have one, and maybe two,” King told POLITICO.
Schumer is presiding over a workplace “where the leadership of the staff is predominantly white," King said.
