Battle for New York State Senate Control Down to a Few Races

 

Here is the third item from my "Albany Insider" column that was cut from the Monday print editions for space:

With eight days to go before Election Day, the fight for control of the state Senate has narrowed to a handful of races.

Three races in Nassau County and one in the Hudson Valley will likely determine which party is in the majority come January, Democrats and Republicans agree.

In Nassau County, the race between veteran incumbent GOP Sen. Carl Marcellino and Democrat James Gaughran is close, as is one between Democrat Adam Haber and Republican Elaine Phillips for a seat currently held by a GOPer who is running for Congress this year, insiders from both parties say.
