Gun Violence and Public Health

Panelists talked about the access to guns by high-risk people such as criminals and the mentally ill. Speakers included gun violence prevention advocates and the U.S. attorney from South Carolina.

“Reducing Gun Violence: A Risk Based Approach” was a panel at the day-long symposium “Moving from Crisis to Action: A Public Health Approach to Reducing Gun Violence” held at the Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston. The event marked the six-month anniversary of a mass shooting at the church in which a gunman killed nine people.

The discussion was originally broadcast on December 4, 2015.
