Cuomo on the Death of Ellen Schwartz: 'I Am Lucky to Have Called Her a Friend'

Statement by Governor Andrew Cuomo

“It is with profound sadness that we learn of the passing of Ellen Schwartz. Ellen served the state of New York as Executive Deputy Chief of Staff in the Attorney General’s office, and for the past four years as Assistant Executive Deputy Secretary in the Chamber. Ellen was a dedicated public servant who was instrumental in recruiting first-class talent to our team. She approached everything she did with pride, and her warm, outgoing personality touched our entire staff and all those around her. She left an indelible mark on this administration and this state. I am lucky to have called her a friend.

“Ellen will be missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known her. My thoughts are with Ellen’s husband Ed, her children Sara and Matthew and their families, her mother Shirley, her brother Chuck, and her many friends and loved ones.”
