DASNY Welcomes Bushell as New President, CEO

Gerrard P. Bushell, PhD.

Albany, NY -  On the evening of June 16th, Gerrard P. Bushell was confirmed by the New York State Senate as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY).

Subsequent to Governor Cuomo’s nomination, Gerrard was appointed Acting President and CEO by DASNY’s Board at its May 13, 2015 Meeting.

“The DASNY Board extends a very warm welcome to Gerrard Bushell as our new President and CEO. DASNY will benefit from the strong leadership and vision that Gerrard brings,” said DASNY Chair Alfonso L. Carney, Jr.

“Gerrard comes to us with a blend of public and private sector experience that is consistent with our mission. He is familiar with our client base and has already shown a deep commitment to aligning DASNY’s services to best meet our client’s finance and construction goals.

Since its inception, DASNY has grown from a builder of dormitories into a national leader in financing and constructing facilities used in a wide array of public activities. DASNY is instrumental in financing and building critical social infrastructure that will support the needs and ambitions of New Yorkers for this generation and the next.

“I am honored that Governor Cuomo and the DASNY Board have entrusted me with the mission to find ways to offer low-cost financing to support the financing and construction of the social infrastructure necessary to allow our public and private clients to serve communities across this great state,” said Bushell.

“I look to step into the history and background of DASNY’s success."

In the private sector, Mr. Bushell was an accomplished investment advisor who counseled some of the nation’s leading institutional investors on their private and public investment strategies. He also has deep experience working in New York State Government, having served as a Senior Officer to New York State Comptroller H. Carl McCall, a sole trustee of the New York State Common Retirement Fund and a leading institutional investor. Mr. Bushell is a graduate of Columbia University, where he received a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Sciences.

Bushell comes to DASNY from BNY Mellon's alternative and traditional investment management businesses where he served as a Senior Relationship Advisor.

Prior to joining BNY Mellon, he held a number of Senior Advisory roles, including Director in the Client and Partner Group at Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR), Managing Director in Business Development at Arden Asset Management and Head of Institutional Sales at the Legg Mason affiliate ClearBridge Advisors (formerly Citi Asset Management).

As a civic leader, Mr. Bushell serves on a number of volunteer boards and committees. Most notably, he has been active on the Board of Public Health Solutions, a not-for-profit organization that offers dynamic solutions to prevent disease and improve community health.

Until recently, he served on the Board of the Center for an Urban Future, a NYC-based think tank dedicated to highlighting the critical economic opportunities and challenges facing New York and other cities across the State. He also served on the Citizen Union’s Board for the last seven years.

Finally, Gerrard has served as a mentor to a number of graduates, and remains an active alumnus of Columbia College and the Graduate School where he serves on the Alumni Board.

Founded in 1944, DASNY is one of the largest higher education, health care and public-purpose issuers of tax-exempt bonds in the nation with an outstanding bond portfolio of approximately $45.7 billion as of March 31, 2015. DASNY is also a major public builder in New York State with a construction pipeline of 1,025 projects valued at more than $6.2 billion.
