'Other Rockaway Areas Look Like War Zones'

Photos Show Devastation Stretches to Beach 122nd Street

Kyle Piccirello, Jr., who resided in Far Rockaway most of his life, contacted From The G-Man to state that while a great deal of media attention is being placed on the Breezy Point section of the Rockaways in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, areas as far back as Beach 70th Street have been greatly impacted by the storm.

"There are sections of Rockaway that literally look like war zones," said Piccirello.

"The place has been leveled and the boardwalk is completely gone from Beach 90th to Beach 122nd Street. There is mass flooding and many are without power. I have never seen anything like this, and I can't begin to describe the level of damage. I'm in shock."

The boardwalk at Beach 102nd Street and Shore Front Parkway is now gone.

Another section of boardwalk was ripped away and ended up quite a distance from the beach. "The water came rushing in like a river," said "Frank", a member of the New York City Fire Department. Frank's home suffered significant damage.

The boardwalk at 122nd Street, facing uptown, was ripped away and pushed into adjacent buildings.
