Long-Term Unemployment Benefits Program Scheduled to End January 2

Air date: November 27, 2012

Christine Owens talked about the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program, scheduled to expire on January 2, 2013, without action by Congress. Enacted in 2008 as an emergency response to the recession, EUC provided federal long-term unemployment benefits when state unemployment benefits were exhausted. Ms. Owens discussed the impact on recipients and the economy if the program was allowed to end, and she responded to telephone calls and electronic communications.
