Rockaway Resident Captures Fury of Hurricane Sandy

A lifelong resident of the Rockaways submitted these photos to illustrate the impact Hurricane Sandy is beginning to have on the peninsula. 

From The G-Man spoke with Howard Schwach, who serves as managing editor of the Rockaway newspaper The Wave of Long Island, and he indicated that the conditions were rapidly deteriorating. 

"I was out taking pictures, but I had to get to safe ground. The winds are picking up and it's starting to get pretty bad," said Schwach. 

The tide continues to rapidly rise on Rockaway beach.

An NYPD cruiser patrols the boardwalk to monitor the rising tides.
