International envoy Kofi Annan has said he agreed with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on an "approach" to end Syria's conflict that would be put to the rebels. Annan said talks with Assad in the Damascus on Monday were "constructive and candid", echoing Syrian foreign ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi who described the meeting as "constructive and good".
