"We are living in a state of war and we are focused on winning it." Syria's President, Bashar al Assad, has now admitted the full scale of the conflict in a meeting with his new cabinet. Within hours of his pronouncement, gunmen stormed a pro-government television station in Damascus, killing seven people and kidnapping several others.
