'Jobs Express' Launched to Help New York's Unemployed

More Than 42,000 Job Openings Currently Listed in Job Bank by Region

"Jobs Express," a new website designed to help New Yorkers who are seeking employment, has been launched.

The site takes thousands of jobs listed on the New York State Jobs Bank and sorts them by region to help job seekers evaluate what industries are growing in their area and find out what opportunities are available in specific economic sectors.

"The Jobs Express website makes it easier for New Yorkers to learn about what jobs are available and to know where to find them," Governor Andrew Cuomo said.

"Not only does this website put unemployed New Yorkers in touch with employers, but job seekers can also get the latest on topics such as resume writing and interview techniques. I encourage every employer who is looking for workers to post their vacancies with the New York State Job Bank. "

Jobs Express features easy-to-use drop-down menus that display useful information for job seekers all on one page. The site also includes videos that offer advice to job seekers and an electronic job-matching tool known as "Skills Matching and Referral Technology" (SMART), which generates job leads from resumes. The Labor Department will update the job listings daily.

Currently, the New York State Job Bank has a total of 42,370 job openings in the following locations: Capital District - 2,726; Central New York - 2,373; Finger Lakes - 2,228; Hudson Valley - 1,681; Long Island - 5,973; Mohawk Valley - 628; New York City - 22,684; North Country - 454; Southern Tier - 924; and Western New York - 2,699.

For further employment resources, there are 88 public One-Stop Career Centers across New York where job seekers can go for additional free services. These services include job search and placement assistance, skills assessments, resume help, labor market information, career planning and training assistance. Job seekers can also meet with employment counselors to devise a career plan that fits their individual needs and skills.
